Where’s the Love? 4 Ways to Get More Online Reviews

Where’s the Love? 4 Ways to Get More Online Reviews

What’s better than a Valentine’s Day card for your business? A great review! Studies have shown that consumers trust online reviews as much or more than a personal recommendation. That means that your consumers, and maybe even you, trust a review from a stranger on the internet as much as you’d trust a recommendation from a friend or coworker.

So, what do you do when your online review sites aren’t getting any love?

Here are four tips to get more online reviews:

1. Ask!

This sounds like the easiest method for getting reviews, but it can be a bit complicated. You or your employees might feel uncomfortable asking customers for reviews in person. It can be a little scary at first, but practice makes perfect; if you incorporate asking for reviews into your business processes, it can make things much easier as time passes.

Try writing out a short script you and your employees can use to ask for reviews at the end of a transaction. It can be as simple as “We’d love to hear from you! If you have a minute to leave us a review, we’re on Google and CitySearch!”

2. Create Visual Reminders & Prompts

Every time my apartment maintenance team completes a work order, they leave a note. At the bottom of that note, there’s a little call to action to “Leave Us a Review!” with icons for Google and Facebook. And, when I’m in the apartment office, there are cute little signs propped up on the tables also asking to “Leave Us a Review!” or “Check Out Our Reviews!”

It’s a fact that the majority of people will leave a review if they’re on either end of the extreme: extremely happy or extremely unhappy. So, this doesn’t account for the majority of consumers who are happy with their experience but may not be actively thinking about a leaving a review. Visual reminders and prompts can help you remind those happy customers to visit your review sites and leave their feedback.

3. Share on Social

Social media is a land of engagement. This is an extremely easy place to ask your customers to leave you a review. You can share a link to your review sites, and you can even share positive reviews to your social audience.

4. Look at Email Marketing Options

Did you know you can use email marketing to get more reviews? By creating an email marketing campaign that targets customers who recently interacted with your business, you can likely drive more reviews to your pages.

Note: We don’t suggest directing customers to review you on Yelp. Yelp has a policy against asking for reviews. No other review site has this policy at this time.

Make your review sites feel loved by integrating some of these tactics into your digital marketing strategy to drive more reviews for your business. Online reputation continues to be extremely important – download our guide below for more tips on managing your online reputation.
